Galina Clarke - Science
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead, anthropologist
Galina Clarke grew up on the Dutch Caribbean Island of Curacao before immigrating to Miami, Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Florida International University. After working for more than ten years at Miami Dade College, she and her ex-submariner husband, also a teacher, and their two young kids left Florida for the rural life of Selma, Alabama. While there they opened a tutoring center and a teacher supply store. With her passion for all things science, she continued her learning by obtaining a Masters degree in Biology at the University of West Alabama with credentials in chemistry. Moving to Port Charlotte, Mrs. Clarke taught Chemistry at Charlotte High School for six years before joining FSWC as a 9th grade chemistry teacher. Always interested in learning, this year she currently teaches Honors Environmental Science and Anatomy and Physiology. In her off time she enjoys travelling with her mother-in-law.
Mrs. Clarke believes that good teaching, whether it be on science or any subject matter, is a continuous cycle of trial and error. “I attempt to inspire and motivate students in seeing the value in dreaming, in aspiring, in discovering who they are and the larger world in which they live. I find great joy in letting them know how important they are to me and how I believe that each, given the opportunity to be challenged, can become skilled thinkers and learners.
